Self-discovery made me!

Updated: Jul 14, 2022

When I started writing a few years ago, it was slow and unsteady. Reading through my very first blog post made me realize how it's been such a compelling enormous journey. Its been small gradual steps, with inconsistencies here and there, bumps, falls, and picking it up all again that led me to this point.

Lately, with everything I've been up to, the idea of finding myself has been on my mind a lot. I've had flashbacks that left me wondering how I got here.

Self-discovery is a process of choosing to understand your personality, character, and ability.

It is one of the most rewarding journeys one can ever embark on. It's about knowing yourself and understanding what motivates you, how you perceive the world, and why.

In my experience, I've known self-discovery to be a personal affair, through which we realize more clearly who we are and what we want out of life—and that's just as valuable whether one is young or old, male or female, an introvert or an extrovert.

I repurposed my very first article from 2019 to have it kick us off on our new beginnings to share a few tips that I've been digesting over time slowly until some if not all have synced with me. These are intended to help each one of us that's starting and trying to get ourselves together.

  • Find what it is that you love to do effortlessly and naturally and start today. If it is out of sight, give yourself the adventure of trying out new things and see what sits right with you. If this doesn't work, you need to dig deeper.

  • When you find it, commit and stick to it. This helps to have your efforts and attention all focused in one place rather than having it all over the place. (Business people call it specialization.)

  • Find a role model. Preferably a mentor, this is very key while on your journey because it is important to have someone whose footsteps you can walk into.

  • Start practicing it more often. The more you go at it, it eventually becomes a part of you.

  • Be patient with yourself. “Rome wasn't built in a night.” one day at a time.

  • Allow yourself to be terrible at it, live room for growth.

  • Use the internet to acquire new knowledge and resources.

While these practices and tips will help you make progressive steps to defining yourself. Be cautious of these rough patches you’re most likely to encounter. “Forewarned is forearmed.”

  • Self-doubt usually kicks in when one is on such defining journeys. Read this to get ahead of it.

  • The dilemma to choose between surviving (paying your bills and pursuing your career(passion) may not pay off instantly. Most times you're trying to get experience which may have one to do pro bono work/internship. In situations like these, tread carefully. I suggest you save up enough before going rogue.

  • Support systems are a crucial need, your family or spouse or close friend has to have your back. They have to be willing to understand and support you in making the right decisions.

Listen to a fully broken-down episode about all things self-discovery here.

I am also excited and thrilled to officially announce that I’ve launched a podcast, and our goal is to have a safe space, or platform for people that are growing and evolving, to enable us to have honest conscious conversations.

We hope that these conversations will influence each one of us to live a fulfilling intentional life so that we are of value addition to those around us.

You can listen in on Anchor, and Apple podcasts. If you prefer to watch me live, then follow me on Instagram where I’ll be sharing videos too.

I am excited about this new chapter. I hope you discover yourself and find something that you love that equally excites you.

A toast, to new beginnings.
